NMKRV College for Women, an esteemed institution in Bengaluru, achieved autonomous status from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2005, a remarkable milestone that came into effect in 2006. With a strong affiliation with Bangalore University, NMKRV College for Women has established itself as a premier institution in the state. As a mandate for autonomy, the college has a governing body, an academic council, a board of studies and other effectively functioning systems. The college revises the syllabus every three years to keep the students abreast of the recent updates in their course of study. Going beyond academics, the college also places a strong emphasis on honing multiple skills and guiding students in their personal growth and development. A transparent evaluation system, supplementary examinations, fast-track examinations, and special supplementary exams are conducted for the benefit of the students. The autonomous status of NMKRV College for Women has been extended until 2018–2022, reaffirming its dedication to academic excellence and fostering a nurturing environment for its students.
The college was awarded the ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ award in 2010
by UGC.
The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under the scheme “Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in Higher Educational Institutions” (DST-FIST), sanctioned an amount of Rs. 1.1 Crore to our college in 2018 at Level 0′. The scheme is intended to augment the teaching and research facilities through the acquisition of equipment, software, books, networking, computational facilities and equipment maintenance.
The Star College Scheme, initiated by the Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India, aims to enhance teachers’ skills through Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), and offer practical training for students by providing specialised access to infrastructure and consumables. The support provided under the scheme strengthens physical infrastructure in laboratories, libraries and teaching aids and promotes networking with the neighbouring institutes. Hands-on training, product-oriented projects, and projects of day-to-day relevance enhance students’ interest in pursuing science at the undergraduate level. Basic science departments – (chemistry, botany, and zoology) were selected in 2021 for this scheme, supporting undergraduate education.
