Objective: This activity was initiated to create moral values in our students. One way to try and show them more about life is by visiting old age homes and orphanages. Visiting such places shows them the reality of life.
Report on visit to BOSCO MANE
We, from DISHA, under Personality Development, NMKRV College for Women, along with faculty members Ms. Mary Cinderella and Ms.Yeshaswini C G had spent half a day in BOSCO MANE – Vatsalya Bhavan 242, 4th Main, Chamrajpet, Bangalore 560018 on 1st October, 2016
As a community service initiative, we approached various old age Homes, orphanages and a few other institutions, out of which BOSCO MANE accepted our intentions and asked us to come on 1st October, 2016. We approached the Principal of our college, and after a small briefing about what all we are planning to do over there, accepted and permitted us to go ahead.
On 1st October, 2016, Saturday, we reached the orphanage at around 1.00 PM as planned and all of us reached there and got ourselves introduced to the Caretaker Fr. Thomas, under whom this home is running smoothly with 80 boys between the age group 5 to 16 Years.
Few kids do have either of their parents, but since they are below the poverty line, and since their parents wanted them to have basic education, they have sent them here. The day was started with prayer and lunch.
Our students from II year B.Com had prepared for a 10-minute presentation which was based on personality development topics such as good and bad habits, goal setting, human values, motivation, and so on. They delivered their presentation to the students in teams.
As a sign of love and care, our students distributed snacks, books and pens. The inmates are much disciplined, well behaved, and determined. Many wanted to join the Indian Army, become doctors, and take up choreography after their schooling.
As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”. In these places students see those small actions of theirs make so much difference in their lives. Ou rstudents became very happy seeing how their actions brought smiles to others’ faces.
Outcome of the visit
Our students realized the struggles that certain people have to go through for basic necessities and also felt fortunate for having good parents in their life. They developed a sense of helping others because they noticed that their small help could make so much difference in another person’s life. It has also bought a positive impact on children and boosted their morals.
